Job Description

General Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Executive Director of School Instructional Services and in accordance with the established policies and procedures of Ingham Intermediate School District, the Director, Student Instructional Services will lead, manage, coordinate and support staff development in the implementation of the elements of a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) model. In addition, this position will support staff to assist local districts with the development and implementation of plans and activities designed to meet assessment, school improvement, and accreditation needs, including districts identified by the Michigan Department of Education’s (MDE’s) Statewide System of Supports. The Director is responsible for developing program goals, establishing priorities and allocating resources necessary to accomplish these duties.



  • Possess current Michigan Administrator Certification or are enrolled in a program leading to certification as a school administrator not later than six months after date of employment, with three years to meet the certification requirements.
  • Three to five years of successful experience within special and/or general education.  Current teaching certificate or related services approval required.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in the facilitation and implementation of MTSS at the ISD and/or local level required.  Three to five years experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of state and federal mandates that impact special education and general education programs, services and student achievement and an ability to interpret, implement and recommend policies established by state and federal entities.
  • Demonstrated skills with supervisory functions such as; appraisal, team building, coaching, continuous improvement, data driven decision making, problem solving and conflict management.
  • Knowledge and ability to implement district policies and procedures within assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Demonstrates strong understanding of the logic and application of an MTSS tiered model, the continuum of behavior, reading and math supports at all levels, and systems development.
  • Demonstrates strong understanding of and ability to guide and/or coach building teams through data-based decision making utilizing a problem solving model and implementation in tiered levels of interventions.
  • Demonstrates fluency, knowledge and use of School-wide Positive Behavior Intervention Support and proactive school wide research based literacy and math practices.
  • Demonstrates strong project management skills with ability to exercise independent judgment and work collaboratively.
  • Demonstrates strong understanding of the use of data and research within a strategic planning and continuous improvement process.
  • Utilizes interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences and gain cooperation of others internally and externally.
  • Utilizes effective facilitation skills to provide human and material resources for supporting change and transformation of adult practice.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of common core state standards and research-based instruction and assessment practices.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of or the ability to learn state mandates including School Improvement, specifically schools identified by MDE’s Statewide System of Supports requirements and guidelines.
  • Demonstrates ability to work effectively as a member/leader of a team.
  • Ability to manage change and anticipate future needs 

Working Conditions:

Will work in a normal office environment.  Will also work in other environments such as schools and businesses.  The director must provide his/her own transportation.
