Job Title:       Assistant Superintendent – Administrative Services

                        Kent Intermediate School District                                                                                                                                   

Provides leadership for the District’s financial management and the Administrative Services Division while implementing the vision, mission, values and goals of the District.

Job Qualifications:

  1. Master’s degree from an accredited college/university with particular emphasis on administration, business management and school law.
  2. MSBO Chief Financial Officer Certification preferred.
  3. Needs a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in the area of business management.
  4. Requires experience in some field of governmental operation, preferably in the field of education
  5. Must have exceptional organizational and supervisory skills with excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with superiors, peers, subordinates, local/state/national education representatives and regulatory/funding agencies, constituent districts and public-at-large.
  6. Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, constituent districts, business, governmental agencies and the community at large.
  7. Requires demonstrated leadership and resourcefulness in all processes and a high degree of flexibility in order to achieve organizational expectations according to the vision, mission, values and goals of the District.
  8. Must have the ability to read, analyze and interpret financial reports and legal documents and be able to apply financial concepts and deal with abstract and concrete variables.
  9. Must be proficient in computer skills as applicable for daily use (spreadsheets, calculator/calculations, document preparation, email, etc.).
  10. Must be able to produce results under various constraints and pressures.
  11. Requires the ability to work with and influence persons in all types of positions using tact and diplomacy.
  12. Demonstrates a strong commitment to equity, social justice, and inclusion in all practices and position responsibilities. Demonstrates the ability to examine the impact of education inequities in student achievement outcomes as it aligns with race, ethnicity, and socio-economic status.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Serves as Chief Financial Officer of Kent Intermediate School District.
  2. Administers and serves in a leadership role for the development and implementation of the District’s budget process as aligned with the District’s mission and goals.
  3. Directs the cash flow management of District funds according to Board policies, Administrative Guidelines and state statute including the handling of all funds, accounting and reporting procedures and long-range planning.
  4. Assists the Superintendent and District staff in analyzing financial and educational problems and develops solutions which ultimately improve daily operations.
  5. Advises the Superintendent on business, facility and pupil membership affairs.
  6. Oversees the preparation of the District’s financial reports including the Annual Financial Audit.
  7. Serves on a number of committees including KISA, KISA Special Education Advisory Committee, Center Program Advisory Committee, Western MI Health Insurance Pool, School News Network Advisory Committee, and MSBO ISD Committee.
  8. Chairs and or leads a number of committee’s including Kent ISD Safety and Security Committee, KISA Collaboration Committee, Prosperity Region 4 Adult Education Consortium, and MI Retirement Investment Consortium.
  9. Participates with county, state and national organizations to stay abreast of legislative affairs as it relates to school finance reform and other District-related issues.
  10. Prepares and submits tax resolutions for the Board to guarantee the timely transfer of funds from taxing authorities to the District.
  11. Works closely with constituent district business officials, Human Resource Directors, Special Education Directors and Superintendents on numerous business and financial issues including payout of funds, cooperative agreements and facility contracts.
  12. Works with staff to develop a facility expansion program and provides overall planning and supervision of facilities and construction.
  13. Directs the work of the Auditing staff with regard to pupil accounting, food service, transportation and required state records and reports.
  14. Carries out supervisory responsibilities, which include supporting professional development for assigned staff, rewarding and disciplining staff, addressing complaints and resolving problems of assigned staff members.

Salary: $145,000-$160,000/year Commensurate with education and experience
