POSITION:                ASD Outreach Teacher Consultant

 

Plymouth-Canton is seeking to employ culturally responsive teachers who will be able to support and sustain equity-focused instruction for all learners.  These educators create high achieving learning environments. They identify and systematically apply differentiated instruction and assessment that improves achievement for all learners from all racial groups.

 

  MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Valid Michigan teaching certificate with at least one special education endorsement.  Applicants with the Autism Spectrum Disorder (SV) endorsement are preferred.
  2. Masters degree in special education.
  3. Three years successful school experience with not less than two years working within special education.  Applicants with experience working with students with autism spectrum disorder preferred.
  4. Must possess or immediately qualify for Michigan Department of Education Teacher Consultant approval.
  5. Professional communication and interpersonal skills.
  6. Extensive experience with, and knowledge of, behavior management principles.
  7. Extensive experience with, and knowledge of, curriculum adaptations.
  8. Demonstrated record of collaborative teamwork.
  9. Demonstrated skills in parent consultation.
  10. Proficient skills in written communication.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provides consultant support services to students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) who are kindergarten through high school. 
  2. Provides trainings to staff and parents regarding best practices for students with autism spectrum disorder. 
  3. Supports staff with materials/support needed for including students with autism spectrum disorder in general education.
  4. Works collaboratively with building principals, general education teachers, special education teachers, specials teachers and paraprofessionals, dealing with students with autism spectrum disorder.
  5. Works collaboratively with parents of students with autism spectrum disorder..
  6. Works collaboratively with educators in the design of visual schedules, behavior plans, academic supports, communication systems and assitive technology.
  7. Performs other tasks as may be assigned by the supervisors.
  8. Bending, lifting, and overhead work required.

SALARY:                                 

Beginning step of the applicable salary schedule

Masters degree step one - $43,954

Full year salary will be prorated to start date

OTHER:

Upon recommendation for employment, Section 1230g, as amended, of the Revised School Code requires all school employees to be electronically finger printed for the purpose of undergoing a criminal history background check. The fingerprinting is conducted by a third party and is at the expense of the applicant. Cost for fingerprinting is approximately $70.00.
