Purpose Statement:

The position of School Social Worker requires certification in the area of School Social Work. The position must meet federal and state mandates. The position also demands the needs to identify and render services to At-Risk students and work with families and social organizations and school personnel.

 

Essential Duties And Responsibilities:   (May not include all tasks employee may be expected to perform.)

  • Evaluation, assessment, diagnosis and documentation
  • Home visits
  • Crisis intervention
  • Behavior modification and contracting
  • Short term, long term individual and group counseling
  • Peer mediation
  • ADD/ADHD screening, assessment/referral
  • Identification and referral to community agencies for ongoing service (see community resources and partnerships)
  • Identification and referral to social, private, professional and recreational organization for basic needs (see community resources and partnerships)
  • Will work in classrooms assessing the ecological systems of student/school/community, collaborating with teachers regarding social skills needs, modeling and co-teaching lessons on social skills, supporting and implementing program and evaluating effectiveness of program
  • Extra-curricular social opportunities and after school enrichment
  • Intensive social skills instruction (small group/individual)
  • Problem-solving with principals, teachers, and support staff
  • Collaboration in teams
  • Parent-Teacher conferences
  • Parent support, education and consultation
  • Parent advocate
  • Home-School contacts
  • Liaison between school and home
  • Liaison between agency and school
  • Community partnership
  • Business partnerships
  • Advocacy and monitoring for student needs
  • Participation on agency committees
  • School climate
  • Prioritize needs based on current laws and mandates

Qualification Requirements:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be qualified to perform essential duties. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Certification in the area of School Social Work; MSW; CSW
  • Some restraining/physical management required
  • Ability to promote harmonious relationships with students, parents, staff, and administrators

Education And/Or Experience:

  • MSW, CSW
  • Some experience required

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations (if applicable): 

  • MSW; CSW
