POSITION TITLE:          Director of Business Services

To assist in the administration of the District’s business affairs so as to provide maximum educational services with the financial resources available.



Provides overall leadership to the business office staff

Provides monthly financial statements for all funds

Distributes monthly responsibility reports

Prepares appropriate journal entries

Conducts periodic reviews of the general ledger, vendor checks, open purchase orders, payroll files and other financial data to insure system accuracy.

Invest school funds and maintain schedule of investments

Ensures that bank statements are reconciled each month

Prepares/files reports required by ISD< County, State and Federal agencies as it relates to the Business Office

ACA reporting, district insurance benefits, and cobra compliance

Evaluates all business office staff annually

Participates in negotiations for the various unions

Oversees/maintains the financial accounting

Oversees payroll accounting finances

Assists in preparation and monitoring District’s budgets

Assists in coordination of Annual Financial Audit

Maintains a fixed asset inventory system, real estate, and property liability insurance program

Prepares documents/information related to school millage elections, bonding and other financial issues

Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee. 



Directly supervises business office staff.  Works closely with the superintendent regarding oversight of some departments.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and/or Business Administration or related field (CPA Preferred), Master’s Degree highly desirable; five years related experience and/or training; preferred knowledge of public school accounting.  Completion of MSBO Chief Financial Officer Certification desired or willingness to obtain.



       Meet chief financial officer/administrator continuing education requirement.                  MSBO certification as outlined above.






Ability to read and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups employees and the general public.  



Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, rations, and proportions to practical situations. 



Ability to define problems, collects data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concreate variables. 



Ability to operate personal computer as well as Mainframe and spreadsheet experience.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community.  Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication.  Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and operate a computer, and to reach with hands and arms.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds, such as payroll reports.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
