Purpose Statement:

To encourage and promote the educational and social success of students who have emotional impairments.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities:   (May not include all tasks employee may be expected to perform.)

  • Employ various teaching methods and strategies.
  • Gear curriculum requirements to meet the educational and social needs of CI students.
  • Develop behavioral management programs appropriate to student needs.
  • Efficiently document student progress and PLEP/IEP information and maintain student records.
  • Collaborate with general educational teachers and other support staff.
  • Develop and maintain a positive rapport with students, parents, staff and the community.
  • Seek out and make use of outside resources.
  • Attend IEPs for students on caseload.
  • Adhere to state and district guidelines regarding professional development opportunities and requirements.
  • Consider students’ transitional success into real life experiences and the world of work.

Qualification Requirements:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be qualified to perform essential duties. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

  • Crisis Prevention Intervention or similar crisis management training
  • Ability to promote harmonious relationships with students, parents, staff and administrators

Education And/Or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or beyond
  • A valid Michigan teaching certificate
  • Endorsement to teach CI students in given age/grade levels
  • Preferred experience working with students who have diverse learning needs
