POSITION:

Early Childhood Special Education Teacher

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Possess a current Michigan Teaching Certificate and any of the following: Endorsement in both Early childhood and Special education (preferred); Early Childhood (ZS); Major or Minor in early childhood growth education and a special education endorsement
  • Minimum three years experience in early childhood field preferred

 

JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of typical development for children from birth to kindergarten. 
  • Develop and work toward achievement of performance objectives for each assigned student, with a system for data collection and evaluation for these objectives.
  • Demonstrate ability to instruct students individually in a variety of settings, based on knowledge of child growth and development and using multi-sensory techniques.
  • Work as a team with other professionals to pursue and meet individual performance objectives.
  • Direct Teacher Assistants in their daily tasks to support instruction.
  • Establish a positive relationship with teachers, parents and home providers, and communicate with them regularly about growth, progress, problems and successes.
  • Analyze student behavior, develop and implement behavior programs as needed.
  • Serve as a resource to parents of impaired students, providing information and/or contacts for support, assistance or knowledge of their child's impairment.
  • Serve as a member of the Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team, Individual Family Service Planning Committee, and the Individual Educational Planning Committee.
  • Work cooperatively with itinerant staff, office staff, administration and community service agencies.
  • Demonstrate professional improvement through in-service attendance, CEU's or college credit, conference attendance and reading professional literature.
  • Prepare required reports and provide necessary information accurately and punctually.
  • Identify program needs and assist in finding solutions for special education problems.
  • Involve families in community activities as appropriate.
  • Maintain appropriate records.
  • Use universal precautions at all times for personal health and safety.Develop compliant Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) that promote measurable student growth
  • Participate in meetings, workshops, and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required of position
  • Predictable, reliable, and punctual attendance
  • Utilize Adaptive Schools concepts and strategies to engage students and adults
