Position Details: 


  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with Emotional Impairment Endorsement (SE)
  • Meet requirements to be Highly Qualified under NCLB/IDEA
  • TCI/CPI Training (Therapeutic Crisis Intervention/Crisis Prevention Intervention) preferred
  • Elementary teaching experience preferred
  • Demonstrated competencies in areas of interpersonal relationships, communication and organization


Professional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plans individualized instruction to meet the unique needs of emotionally impaired students
  • Creates and manages a safe, comfortable, positive learning environment
  • Prepares for and participates in the IEP/IFSP process
  • Provides appropriate physical intervention to ensure the safety and provision of personal care to the students
  • Demonstrates consistent, effective management of student behavior
  • Trains and directs paraprofessionals and other classroom assistants
  • Maintains effective communication and relationships with students, parents, administrators, school personnel and community representatives
  • Works collaboratively and proactively with principal and student services director about student progress and/or concerns
  • Maintains accurate and timely records
  • Coordinates and conducts effective parent conferences
  • Demonstrates professional conduct and exhibit professional growth
  • Complies with school district policies and procedures
  • Effectively participates in meetings, committees, staffing and other required district and building activities
  • Complies with Medicaid billing procedures
  • Understands and is aware of medical needs of students and follows medical protocol under the district policies
  • Maintains confidentiality
  • Attends and passes TCI Training (Therapeutic Crisis Intervention)
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance
  • All other duties as assigned
