The Lansing School District is seeking a well-versed, experienced, and energetic leader that is committed to assisting the Superintendent oversee the development, implementation and evaluation of the district's financial operations in order to provide educational excellence in a safe and nurturing environment for all students through our district wide open choice model of 21st century best practices.

• Completion of Bachelor's degree in Business of Accounting and Master's degree in Business Educational Leadership or equivalent professional designation required, Certified Public Accountant designation is desired;
• Seven to ten years work experience in financial management and accounting. Five years of experience specific to the public school system is preferred; experience in leading a K-12 Operations department preferred;
• Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of practices and procedures, rules and regulations and directives as established for educational programs;
• Comprehensive knowledge of public education system operations, including but not limited to: facilities management, food services, transportation, real estate, bond and sinking fund and implementation management;
• Experience in financial management, investment, and resource allocation for the public education sector;
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations;
• Ability to create and analyze a wide variety of data related to the job;
• Demonstrates a high level of oral and written communication skills including the ability to write reports and business correspondences;
• Demonstrated ability with PowerPoint, Excel, Word, E-Finance, Synergy, electronic communication, pdf, and other software applications relevant to the work.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a variety of constituencies;
• Ability to provide requested information in a timely and transparent manner.

Job Responsibilities:
• Must work effectively with the Superintendent, Superintendent’s Executive Team, directors, principals, teachers, coordinators, advisory committees, and the general public to interpret and promote an understanding of the financial aspects of the school district;
• Analyze proposed and existing legislation to assess implications for district; communicate implications of proposed legislation as appropriate with the Superintendent and other groups and agencies as assigned;
• Plan, develop and oversee budget processes, both annual and long range, for the General Fund, State and Federal Program Funding, and various additional funding sources. The process must include: developing overall budget strategy, obtaining broad range of input in order to provide the best possible educational service with the financial resources available; prioritizing needs, allocating resources among priorities, maintain a reporting system to assure all expenditures are within budget guidelines or have prior approval for exception; communicating with community, staff, and board; and developing mechanisms for monitoring and evaluation of financial performance;
• Monitor district cash flow and maximize district's use of resources by implementing approved cost savings programs, generating investment income and cost effective borrowing if necessary;
• Direct the development of the internal and external audit plans;
• Oversee the District's financing activities such as planning, structuring and obtaining financing for construction and property and equipment acquisition;
• Oversee the district's risk management activities, benefit programs, and compliance reporting to federal, state, local, and private funding sources;
• Oversee the district’s third party operations activities including: food services, facilities management; and transportation;
• Foster an atmosphere of cooperation for a successful and productive relationship with other governmental units and agencies for the betterment of students and the community;
• Provide positive leadership to staff; evaluate staff regularly.
• Work collaboratively with the Board of Education Treasurer in preparing monthly reports;
• Attend Board of Education Meetings, as scheduled;
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

Physical Demands:
• Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk, and hear;
• Sitting for long periods of time
• Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl;
• Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds;
• Regularly required to use close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision. Must also have the ability to adjust focus.
