Position Details: 

Career Counselor

This position provides specialized career counseling to students throughout the county as part of the RESA Workforce Development Inventory Project. Counselor will travel to different schools to meet with students, both individually and in groups, to explore individual career opportunities and guide them in post-secondary options. Counselor will also attend meetings with government, non-profit and private sector stakeholders to build knowledge and partnerships within the workforce pipeline. 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:                                           

  • Maintain a multi-school weekly rotation schedule to provide career services to students
  • Meet with students, both in groups and individually, to provide guidance on careers and post-secondary opportunities
  • Collect, maintain and report student contact points and outcomes
  • Work with high school counselors and administrators to create effective and efficient student contact processes
  • Stay current with workforce trends and opportunities
  • Attend meetings with workforce partners to build partnerships within the workforce pipeline.
  • Provide input on workforce contacts and content to maintain a current database
  • Collaborate with RESA career counselor team members to develop best practices and improve processes
  • Plan, use professional judgment and act effectively to carry out the functions of this position within the direction provided by WRESA’s mission and goals, and department goals and objectives.     
  • Coordinate and collaborate in the integration of technology into educational program
  • Frequent travel within Wayne County. Limited/infrequent travel outside of Wayne County
  • Maintains regular in-person attendance
  • Perform other duties as assigned



  • Master’s Degree in Education related field required
  • One of the following credential requirements:
    • School Counselor (NT) endorsement
    • Temporary School Counselor Authorization (TSCA)
    • Preliminary Employment Authorization to Work as a School Counselor (PEASC)
    • School Counselor License (SCL)


  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience working with high school students in career related fields; such as high school counselor, CTE teacher, etc.


  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others, including; peers, colleagues and students
  • Proficient in computer usage (including Microsoft Office and Google Docs); Career Cruising proficiency preferred
  • Demonstrated listening, verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated skill working with diverse populations
  • Ability to travel frequently within Wayne County


Current WCSSF 10-Month Salary Schedule – Grade M ($62,281-$95,366 FY) and a comprehensive benefits package including health/dental/vision/life and long-term disability insurance.
