Adult Transition Special Education Teacher - District

Applications are being accepted for Adult Transition Special Education Teacher. This is a Bloomfield Hills Education Association (“BHEA”) bargaining unit position

Responsible to:  Director of Special Education

Supervises:  The post-secondary educational program (“P.R.E.P.”) operated by Bloomfield Hills Schools. The program serves young adults ages 18 – 26 who have developmental and physical disabilities.


  • Hold a valid Michigan Teacher Certificate.
  • Hold an earned bachelor’s or graduate degree in special education or a field related to transition of youth with disabilities.
  • Completed a minimum of 3 years of satisfactory teaching experience in special or vocational education at the secondary level; or a minimum of 3 years of satisfactory employment providing transition-related service to individuals with disabilities between the ages of 13-26 years.
  • Have knowledge of transition foundations to develop transition education, activities, and service for students, families, and service providers.
  • Have effective facilitation, coaching, and leadership skills at a group and individual level.
  • Have the ability to engage in collaborative transition service delivery, and utilize interagency agreements.
  • Able to facilitate/teach pertinent transition practices (issues) to support special education and agency staff including:  Federal/Michigan Law, Curriculum/Best Practice, Delivery of Transition Services, and Interagency Collaboration.
  • Understand outcome measurement and evaluation of transition services.

COMPENSATION BENEFITS:  Pursuant to the BHEA bargaining unit agreement.
