Job Purpose and Focus

This building administrator will lead the middle school staff with vision, strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to addressing the unique needs of middle school children in their quest to acquire a quality education. The middle school principal is responsible for supporting the Board of Education, Superintendent, and staff in implementing district goals for children.  This individual must provide leadership and supervision for the entire school, curriculum, facilities, students, and staff. 

 

Essential Qualifications and Requirements 

  • Master’s degree in educational administration and compliance with state required continuing education requirements.Applicants currently pursuing a Master’s degree in educational administration may also be considered.
  • Administrator Certificate or compliance with state required continuing education requirements.
  • School administrative experience
  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate
  • Five years successful teaching experience preferred
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Successful experiences with a diverse student and parent population
  • Overall knowledge of school programs and services
  • Experience with Cultural proficient instruction preferred
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally and exercise tact and discretion in relationships with district personnel, parents, and general public
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work well with others
  • Ability to problem solve, prioritize work, meet deadlines and demonstrate organizational skills
  • Willingness to keep abreast of changing technologies and to assume new responsibilities required by the introduction of new services
  • Ability to develop and maintain record keeping systems and procedures

 

Essential Functions and Representative Duties

  • Lead all staff in the implementation of the district plan for continuous improvement
  • Promote an open, supportive, positive, and safe school climate
  • Oversee and manage all aspects of the high school operation and appropriately delegate duties to other staff
  • Make use of achievement data to provide leadership in curriculum development and best instructional practices
  • Promote, lead, evaluate, and mentor professional performance and growth of all staff.
  • Evaluate professional staff using Charlotte Danielson Framework for Teaching evaluation tool.
  • Supervise and attend student extracurricular activities
  • Participate in district wide and community initiatives in support of the Carman-Ainsworth Community Schools
  • Use excellent oral and written skills
  • Know, understand, and implement federal, state, and Board of Education policies
  • Commit to active and meaningful involvement of parents and community in school programs
  • Staff the building in cooperation with the administrator in charge of personnel
  • Approve the master teaching schedule and teacher assignments
  • Establish and maintain a student discipline program that includes Restorative Practices and PBIS
  • Oversee building child accounting procedures
  • Approve all official school correspondence and news releases
  • Prepare and administer the school budget as it relates to building supplies and internal accounts
  • Review and revise Administrative Regulations to Board policies as required
  • Assist the Superintendent in the development of short- and long-range plans
  • Stay informed of developments and innovations in areas of responsibility by reading current literature, attending professional conferences and meetings, and discussing issues with professional colleagues
  • Prepare and submit reports and other documents as required by the Superintendent
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

Terms of Employment

Salary and fringe benefits as established by the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Board of Education and the Carman-Ainsworth Administrators Association, the current base salary is $86,076.12.

 

Work Environment

Work is performed throughout the facilities of the district. There is limited exposure to physical risk.

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with Michigan Revised School C section 380.1249.  Criteria for performance include but are not limited to:
