Job Summary:                   
The Athletic Director/High School Assistant Principal serves as the school leader for facilitating all phases of the athletic program, grades 6-12.   Provides leadership in planning, developing and implementing athletic and academic programs; including the recruitment, hiring and evaluation of teaching staff, coaches, support staff, and volunteers.  Assists with student management and parent concerns.  Assists principal in his/her absence.

Qualifications:

1.  Masters degree in educational leadership or administration preferred

2.  Must possess a valid Michigan teaching certificate and be eligible to obtain Michigan administrative certification

3.  Must meet State of Michigan Professional Development requirements – 6 semester hours of coursework within the past 5 years

4.  At least three years of teaching experience

5.  Prior experience as a coach preferred

6.  Knowledge and experience as an Athletic Director/Assistant Principal preferred

7.  Must possess excellent organization and communication skills

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Coordinates and guides the athletic program consistent with the school’s policies and with the Michigan High Schools Athletic Association (MHSAA) guidelines.

2. Develops and implements athletic program policies and procedures that promote safety and accountability for all stakeholders in compliance with local and state laws.

3. Develops and oversees the athletic program budget.

4. Provides training and staff development opportunities to all coaches and volunteers to assure compliance with district policies and guidelines.

5. Schedules and coordinates athletic contests, and oversees travel arrangements for the athletic teams.

6. Provides for effective supervision of all aspects of the athletic program.

7. Promotes student academic success through regular monitoring of student athletes’ academic progress and behavior.

8. Ensures that all student athletes have up to date physicals, concussion forms and athletic permission slips on file.

8.  Supervises and evaluates coaches’ performances, and recommends hiring and placement.

9. Compiles information and statistics for the Title IX report on athletic program support and participation rate, and insures that this and other required reports are made and distributed in a timely manner.

10. Attends meetings of the OK Conference.

11. Facilitates athletic promotions and fund raising.

12. Assists in developing effective discipline strategies for student athletes aimed at enforcing proper ethics and morale.

13. Liaison between the District and TK athletic and band boosters.

14. Interacts with staff, students, parents and community in a positive, supportive and cooperative manner.

15. Assists with the responsibility of student activities.

16.  Shares the responsibility of discipline throughout the student body.

17. May assist with teacher and support staff evaluations.

18. Coordinates care and storage of equipment and formulation of annual inventories by head coaches.

19.  Manages coaches’ concerns and problems within each sport.

20. Attends and manages athletic events, with some evening and weekend hours expected.

Terms of Employment:
Competitive and commensurate with experience
44 week contract
