Principal/Special Education Supervisor, Center-based Programs

Position Details: 

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or equivalent
  • Full approval in at least one area of special education
  • Meet all state certification requirements
  • Administrative Certificate
  • Full or temporary approval for Supervisor
  • Background in working with special education populations
  • Prefer at least two years administrative experience

 

  • Additional Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities) 
    • Working knowledge of special education law and compliance procedures
    • Understanding of the Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (MARSE).
    • Expertise in the area of IEP process and procedures.
    • Knowledge of Continuous Improvement and Monitoring System (CIMS).
    • Previous experience training or presenting information to educators and administrators.
    • Skills related to developing training materials, planning staff development, and providing targeted, dynamic professional development.
    • One-to-one educator coaching experience.
    • Ability to access data from a variety of sources to assist with on-site technical assistance.
    • Able to work independently, problem-solve, and find solutions to challenging situations.
    • Working knowledge of Google drive, Gmail, and calendar.
    • Strong written and oral communication skills.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

1. Demonstrate enthusiasm and expertise in working with diverse students including at-risk and special education.

2. Leadership with a proven track record of strong abilities in planning, supervision, human relations, communication and staff development.

2. Provide building leadership in special education curriculum improvement, implementation, and evaluation to promote the educational development of each student.

3. Conduct on-site district level support for correction of noncompliance tasks.

4. Conduct on-site special education file reviews to assist with the general supervision monitoring requirements as outlined in the IDEA grant.

5. Prepare the building budget and monitor expenditures.

6. Thorough knowledge of state and federal Special Education laws and regulations.

7. Contribute to the development of resources and materials for use in conducting professional development and other related professional activities.

8. Conduct ongoing review and analysis of data related to the requirements of MARSE and the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA).

9. Perform internal reviews of State Performance Plan (SPP) indicators outside of the state monitoring cycle to support compliance and best practice.

10. Assist the LEA and/or ISD in identifying any areas of inconsistent/inaccurate data collection.

  • Assist LEA in the evaluation and plans of assistance for LEA special education staff.

11. Attend and hold meetings as stated below:

  • Hold meetings with county special education teachers, assistants and itinerants.
  • Attend local administrative meetings as needed or requested.
  • Attend Special Education Supervisor meetings and HCISD administrative meetings.
  • Attend IEP meetings as requested and run selected IEPT's/MDR's, etc.
  • Represent HCISD at State/Regional meetings and conferences as assigned.

12. Collaborate in professional development and oversee monies given by the ISD.

13. Participate in the development of county-wide policies and procedures for Special Education.

14. Oversee consideration of placement in center programs and coordinate the transition of center students to LEA programs.

15.  Directly supervises county itinerant staff including evaluation and assignment.

16.  Collaborate with parents and community members to provide a safe learning environment.

17.  Work cooperatively with Special Education Director and other directors to ensure quality services throughout the region.

18.  Provide guidance in the development of non-public service plans.

19.  Attendance is an essential part of employment.

20.  All other duties as assigned by the Special Education Director.

Salary Information

Salary Range will be $75,000 - $85,000 and final salary will be determined based upon experience.

Employment Date and Work Year

Anticipated start date will be determined upon hire.  This is a year round position working 260 days per year.  This job will be posted for two weeks; however, it may be filled sooner if a suitable candidate is found.  EOE
