Position Details: 

POSITION TITLE:                               Student Performance Instructional Analyst & Coach (At-Will Position)


REPORTS TO:                                     Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction


PRIMARY FUNCTION:                    Primarily responsible for the management of student performance data within and between various information systems and databases. This includes, but is not limited to, the following: Student Information System, Michigan State Assessment Reports, Federal Reports, Student Data Warehouse, Assessment Systems, Course Management System, as well as other computer information systems as assigned. The coaching of teachers and administrators on usage of Illuminate as well as how to use data to inform instruction is a vital component of the position. 


WORK YEAR:                                      Position requires 2 work weeks both before and after the student instructional year.


SALARY:                                               Lane 7 Non-Rep Scale, starting $56,253

QUALIFICATIONS - Education & Experience

  1. Valid teaching certificate preferred.
  2. Minimum of three (3) years of K-12 and/or university classroom teaching experience preferred.
  3. Preference will be given to Master’s degree or higher in Information Technology Field
  4. Preference will be given to possession of Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist: SQL 2008/2012 certification
  5. Preference will be given to Microsoft Office Specialist or Microsoft Certified Application Specialist certification
  6. Preference will  be given to having knowledge of Illuminate and/or other assessment platforms
  7. Preference will be given to candidates with current experience in working with information management or a combination of industry certification, education and experience
  8. Instructional background with the knowledge and ability to utilize data in an instructional setting to ultimately improve student achievement
  9. Candidate must be able to manipulate data using various computer systems
  10. Ability to demonstrate proficient use of Excel
  11. Ability to work with and communicate effectively with various school audiences
  12. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable




  1. Provide support and training for the district student assessment system and related components (i.e. Report Cards, Schedule, Attendance, Gradebooks, Student/Parent portal, etc.)
  2. Integrate systems together to share data.
  3. Manage SQL Servers and write SQL queries.
  4. Demonstrate sample classroom lessons and provide assistance to teachers in following the process of collecting and analyzing classroom data to inform instruction, as well as sharing the effective use of this information for specific purposes regarding student achievement.
  5. Gather data and assist staff with submitting reports to comply with state and federal reporting requirements.
  6. Coordinate and implement necessary changes to accommodate required data collection.
  7. Ensure that data with assigned systems is available, updated, protected, and relevant to end users.
  8. Manage user accounts including user access and permissions for various data systems as assigned.
  9. Prepare assessment reports as requested by district and school leaders.
  10. Advise the district and schools on ways they can more meaningfully utilize available and future data systems to assist with data-driven decisions.
  11. As required, present data to administration, department heads, Literacy Coach, Interventionists, teachers, etc.
  12. Develop training manuals, tutorials, and provide training to end-users for assigned data.
  13. Assist team members in resolving technology requests associated with assessment management systems.
  14. Communication with staff at all levels to ensure data remains accurate and valid.
  15. Responsible for preparing and implementing professional development to administration and teachers on assessment system input and reporting.
  16. Preparing and implementing professional development to administrators and teachers on strategies to utilize data within their instructional reflections.
  17. Assist in setting up assessment timelines/calendars within the assessment management tools.
  18. Being available to assist individual teachers and small groups of teachers for coaching/tutorials.
  19. Advance existing knowledge of student information systems and data management.
  20. Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction.


     Working Environment/Conditions


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, sit, speak and hear.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and depth perception.  The position will require computer work, involving repetitive hand movement and close vision.  The work environment(s) for this position will consist of several different settings, including an office and school buildings.  Work is performed primarily indoors but may include some outdoor activities.
