Position:                                                                Bus Mechanic

Starting Date:                                                        Immediately

Rate of Pay:                      $15.31 – $17.45 per hour (based on experience and certifications)

Hours:                                  Rotating Schedule - 40 hrs per week, 52 weeks per year

Position Duties:  The employee would be responsible but not limited to the following duties:

 1.   Perform the preventative maintenance and repair of the district’s fleet, not limited to, but including, hydraulic brakes, glass repair, body repair and clutch work.

 2.   Perform routine safety check of the fleet.

 3.   Assist senior mechanic in preparing all necessary reports and assigned work.

 4.   Report unsafe and hazardous conditions immediately to the supervisor.

 5.   Promote high standards of safety, cleanliness, and record-keeping in all work areas.

 6.   Knowledge of and ability to use computers and related technology.

 7.   Order essential repair and replacement parts.

 8.   Repair and replace all exterior parts of vehicles as needed.

 9.   Drive a school bus in an emergency situation.

10   Must have good physical health with no restrictions to perform duties and work assignments.  Able to   appropriately lift, shovel, climb and work from a ladder or scaffold, etc.

11.  Work as an effective team leader.

12.  Any and all other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Knowledge, Skill and Abilities Required:

 1.   High School diploma.

 2.   State of Michigan or A.S.E. Automotive, Heavy Duty Truck and/or Bus Certification.

 3.   Good driving record.

 4.   Licensed to drive school bus or ability to obtain appropriate commercial driver’s license.

 5.   Three (3) years experience in bus repair preferred.

 6.   Knowledge of and experience in school bus safety.

 7.   Ability to maintain essential repair records.

 8.   Ability to communicate with employees, parents, students and other business contacts in a courteous and professional manner.

 9    Good record of ability, punctuality, cooperation, dependability, work performance, and safety.
