THE FOLLOWING POSITION IS AVAILABLE FOR THE 2017-2018 SCHOOL YEAR

K-12 SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHING POSITION (CMS)

Middle School Resource Teacher

SUMMARY OF POSITION:                       

  1. Shall provide and utilize instructional plans, strategies, methods, materials and techniques that best meet the needs of individual students.
  2. Shall be able to develop new curriculum to meet individual student needs.
  3. Creating staff and student schedules according to the IEP’s on a quarterly basis.
  4. Attending IEP’s of incoming students as well as students on caseload
  5. Shall provide the leadership and direction to paraprofessionals working with students
  6. Shall be responsible for the maintenance, disciplinary and instructional activities in the classroom and other school settings.
  7. Planning presentations and presenting to paraprofessionals, visitors, and other professionals

 

 

REPORTS TO:  Building Principal/Supervisor of Special Education              

 

COMPENSATION:         As per the CEA Master Agreement.  Position available through the end of the 2016-2017 school year, with possibility of extension.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:                     

  1. Shall provide and utilize instructional plans, strategies, methods, materials and techniques that best meet the needs of individual students, including knowledge and commitment to including special needs students in the general education environment.
  2. Ability to maintain high-quality programs involving multiple classrooms and varying student schedules.
  3. Shall provide the leadership and direction of classroom aides working with students.
  4. Shall be responsible for the maintenance, disciplinary and instructional activities in the classroom, in transit and in other school settings where no other professional is in charge.
  5. Familiar with non- assertive discipline.
  6. In-depth understanding of special education students.
  7. Shall develop and participate in IEP’s.
  8. Shall meet with parents at scheduled conferences.
  9. Shall attend required workshops and in-services.
  10. Able to work as part of a team.
  11. To keep all student, parent, and staff information confidential.
  12. To keep a positive attitude in working with students, parents, other staff members, and community members who visit Carrollton Public Schools facilities or programs.
  13. Demonstrate a competency in technology.
  14. Cooperate with teachers, students and administration.
  15. Ability and willingness to provide behavioral modifications when needed.
  16. To ensure a safe environment for students at all times.
  17. To meet and greet visitors in a positive, helpful manner.
  18. Must be willing to receive additional training to improve job skills.
  19. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Must have full or be able to obtain temporary approval as a K-12 Special Education Teacher as per Michigan Department of Education Rules.
  2. Must meet or exceed North Central Requirements.
  3. Ability to lift a minimum of 75 pounds.
  4. Excellent oral and written communications skills are required.
  5. Ability to work well with staff, parents and students.
  6. Must have good attendance record.
  7. Be willing to become certified in Crisis Prevention Intervention strategies to assist in handling aggressive students.
  8. Ability to explain the student’s disability to that student and the disability’s impact on learning and to serve as a resource person for other teachers working with the caseload students.
  9. Ability to mentor students regarding all of the following, when applicable:
  10. Human sexuality.
  11. Home, family, and community living.
  12. Career selection.
  13. The use of local, state, and national resources and community agencies.
  14. Ability to develop, implement and reinforce special instruction in all of the following life skill areas, when applicable:
  15. Adult Independent Living.
  16. Recreation and leisure time activities.
  17. Vocational Skills
  18. Social/Interpersonal Skills.
  19. Ability to observe and assess student’s needs
  20. Must be willing to receive additional training to improve job skills.
  21. Must demonstrate competency in the classroom.
  22. Must satisfactorily pass:
  • Law enforcement background check with fingerprinting.
  • Personal and professional reference background check.
  • Must receive a satisfactory response to P.A. 189 letter (Misconduct Law).
