Position Details: 

The Educator in this position will assist the Saginaw ISD Instructional Department in supporting the Local Education Agencies with instructional supports, professional learning, as well as improving instructional practices in a PK-12 setting. The purpose behind the position is to assist schools in the improving best practices in the area of English Language Learners.  This position is responsible to the Director of Instructional Services.

 

Available:

2017-2018 school year.  Full-time, 220 days contract. 

 

Salary:

The Saginaw Intermediate School District Board of Education will provide a competitive compensation package based on years of experience and qualifications.  A two-year contract with provisions for annual review and evaluation will be offered.  Salary range is $72,000 - $76,000 commensurate with experience and education.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Teaching Certificate
  • ESL Endorsement
  • TESOL Master's Degree Preferred
  • Three (3) years of successful teaching experience with ELL students

 

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of multi-tiered systems of supports.
  • Background in creating and evaluating successful Title III programs.
  • Previous experience training or presenting information to educators.
  • Skills related to developing training materials, curriculum documentation, and planning staff development.
  • Applied knowledge of ELL best teaching practices.
  • Experience working with ELL families and providing instructional support.
  • Evidence of developing parent engagement or family outreach programs.
  • Independent worker with strong communication skills.
  • A strong background in cultural understanding and competency.
  • Familiarity with such programs as Grapeseed and SIOP.
  • Ability to administer WIDA testing for Kindergartners and 1st-12th graders.
  • Experience and knowledge with the ELPA Standards for Michigan.
  • Working knowledge of Google drive, Gmail, and calendar.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

 

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide instructional support in the format of one-on-one or small groups with students who qualify for ELL support in local districts.
  • Provide training to staff members in the instructional best-practices when working with ELL students.
  • Provide technical assistance to districts regarding compliance and legislation around ELL supports and programming.
  • Attend necessary trainings and committee meetings regarding ELL supports.
  • Find and provide resources to local school districts in the area of ELL instructional best practices.
  • Develop a parent/family outreach program for local school districts.
  • Create summer programming supports for ELL students that can be shared with the local districts.
  • Representation at the state level regarding Title III and ELL.
  • Serve on various committees regarding cultural competency, community relations, and ELL students.
  • Promote and foster cultural competency both within SISD and across the region.
  • Promote social equity for all students and adults.
  • Foster and develop relationships with community organizations to assist with cultural competency for both the SISD and LEAs.
  • Create and facilitate professional learning for SISD and LEAs regarding cultural competency, instructional supports to ELL students, and social equity.
  • Ability to become a train-the-trainer for SIOP
