Mecosta-Osceola Intermediate School District
Position Details:

Mecosta-Osceola Intermediate School District Preliminary Posting

Mecosta-Osceola Intermediate School District (MOISD) is seeking a superintendent to succeed Dr. Curtis Finch after more than a decade of service. At this time, the Board is limiting its search to employees of Mecosta-Osceola Intermediate School District and the local districts it serves.

MOISD is located in Big Rapids in Mecosta County. Easily accessed via US 131, M-66 and M-20, and only an hour from Gerald R. Ford International Airport, the area is home to over 100 lakes, rivers and streams. In addition, the Fred Meijer White Pine Trail, a 92-mile multi-use trail from Grand Rapids to Cadillac, runs through Big Rapids. The area is known to blend the arts, recreation and culture of larger communities with the family environment of a mid-sized town. This creates an advantageous city in which to live, work and raise a family.

Many of the local amenities come from Ferris State University, a college of over 13,000 students, which is located along the southern edge of town. Students, professors and educators bring a dimension to the community which encourages inclusion of newcomers and new ideas. The University, known throughout the nation as a training ground for both academic and trade pursuits, drives much of the economic success in the area.

MOISD serves the five local school districts, one charter academy and five parochial schools of Mecosta and Osceola counties. The ISD strives to be an integral part of each community’s service to students, with their mission stating “helping schools help students”. In addition to typical ISD initiatives (career center programming, general education services and special education services), MOISD has unique initiatives including specially designed programs for special education, juvenile delinquency facilities on US 10, the Woodbridge Promise (early college program for high schoolers) located at Ferris State, and a personnel cooperative where services are shared to save costs and increase expertise. Mecosta-Osceola ISD takes pride in being the catalyst for successful cooperation between local districts.
